Week 42 – Why does God not intervene?

75th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of St. Maximilian Kolbe.

Week 42

Why does God not intervene?

Why Does God Not Intervene?
Many people wonder why God did not intervene in Auschwitz?
How could God just sit by and watch the Genocide of the Jews and the death of millions of others?

Most people believe that God should have intervened.

Should God intervene if someone is drinking or texting while driving or breaking the speed limit?
Should God intervene if someone is buying or selling drugs?
Should God intervene if someone is cheating on their spouse?
Should God intervene if a person is angry, impatient or judgmental with another?
Should God intervene if a person is gambling away the livelihood of their family?
Should God intervene if someone is stealing or embezzling money?
Should God intervene if someone is watching pornography?
Should God intervene in social, economic and political affairs that impact countries, races, culture, and religion?
Should God intervene in creation?
When there are natural disasters?

Most people would say yes.

But should God intervene when the environment is being destroyed by mining and deforestation?

Should God intervene when factories are polluting the water and the air?
Should God intervene when oceans are being polluted and over fished?
Should God intervene if we are driving and flying too much and causing climate change?
Should God intervene when natural resources are being stripped bare to supply man’s endless appetite for more?

It is precisely all of these things that over time lead up to and build up to Auschwitz and other horrors produced not by God but by man.

Exactly when God should and should not intervene is something that no one would ever agree on.

Neither Republicans and Democrats;
Nor Americans, Asians, Africans, and Europeans.
Nor Catholics, Protestants, Orthodox, Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists.
Nor Husbands and wives, brothers and sisters.
Nor Rich and poor.
Nor teachers, lawyers, doctors or scientists.
They will never agree on when God should intervene?

Many people want God to intervene on his or her own personal behalf but what happens when one’s own personal desires are in conflict with the personal desires of another?
On whose behalf should God intervene?

So God in His mysterious way, chooses when and when not to intervene.
Whether it is great or small.
Personal or societal.

But in all things we know that the suffering of the present is nothing compared to the glory that is to come Rom. 8:18, when every tear will be wiped away and there will be no more death or mourning, crying or pain for the former world will have passed away. Rev. 21:4

For eye has not seen and ear has not heard what God has prepared for those who love Him. 1Cor. 2:9

Prayer: Though I walk through the valley of darkness, I will not fear, for you are ever at my side and will always lead me to greener pastures.
